Role in Ecosystem:

Black crappie are an anglers delight.  Black crappie do well in most Iowa farm ponds.  They are very prolific and seem to maintain their population very well.  Black crappie will prey on both bass and bluegill.  When stocking crappie in ponds smaller than 2 acres be sure to monitor the health of the other fish in your pond.  Black crappie are notorious for causing all the fish in the pond to stunt.

How Many?

Twenty five to thirty five 2-4" fish per acre- after bass are established
